2013 REPORT

The 3rd Eldon Leisure Squash Club Championship was held between 12 - 14 April.  There were over 40 entries this year and over 100 matches played over the weekend.  Apart from the Main event (graded), the Ladies and the Juniors event, the Doubles event was also introduced this year and has attracted a good number of participants.

It wasn't the best pick of day with the final day of the ELS Club Championship being held on the same day as the North-East Derby between NUFC and SAFC. As expected, the ELS Club Championship was a far more important event and attracted a good crowd supporting their favourite players!

A Event: The No. 2 Seed Eric Mok took the Club Champion title in a thrilling 3-2 against the new comer TieZheng Yuan. The match could have gone either way. However, Eric tried to persuade the referee that the final should be played to the best of one game!

Ladies: 2nd Seed Jen Lumley took the title with a 3-1 win over the No. 1 Seed Fiona Macfarlane. In an interview afterwards, Fiona accepted defeat graciously and admitted the best lady won. She finished the interview with the statement: "I'll be back!"

Doubles: The newly crowned club champion Eric Mok and the former Ladies Club Champion Fiona Macfarlane couldn't stop the Dream Team of Cameron Brown and Martin Bone who took the match (best of one game) 11-8.

Ladies Plate: Clare Woroniuk took the Ladies Plate winner title with Katherine Hunt being the runner-up
