2015 REPORT

DAY 3

Finals Day certainly lived up to the hype, as we were treated to a fantastic array of matches. First up were the Plate Finals:

LADIES PLATE: Anna Ward faced Jennifer Hewett in a close and competitive 5-setter, with Anna coming out as the victor. Congratulations to Anna on becoming the Ladies Plate Winner!

B PLATE:  Vera Wealleans came up against Ross Winter in another intense and well-fought 5-setter, but experience prevailed, as Vera took the final game to be crowned B Plate Champ!

A PLATE: Guy Jepson faced the ever-confident Wayne Hollywood in this potentially unpredictable plate final. Guy won in emphatic style, 3-0, and dashed Wayne's dreams of being champion!

On to the Main Finals:

DOUBLES EVENT: In the ever-entertaining Doubles Final, Wayne Hollywood and Milo Mckenzie came up against the double-defending champions Martin Bone and Cameron Brown. There were trick shots, reaction volleys and lets a-plenty in this tantalising match-up, but the defending champions showed their class to retain their Doubles title. And Wayne is left wanting, after letting another potential title slip away (Wayne "Runner-up" Hollywood?)

LADIES EVENT: A repeat of the 2013 final saw Jennifer Lumley vs Fiona Macfarlane. Fiona kicked off the final with a quick and emphatic first game, but Jennifer stepped up her game to level up to 1-1. Fiona kicked on from there to win the next 2 well-contested games to become Ladies Champion for a 2nd time!

B EVENT: The always smiling Jim Owens faced Andrew Webber in a game of small margins, which Jim edged with some great touches that, somehow, escaped the huge reach and running power of Andrew. Congratulations to Jim on his B Event title!

A EVENT: It's becoming the El Classico of Eldon Club Championships,  Rich Hodges vs Eric Mok. Eric got off to the best possible start racing out to a 2-0 lead, but Rich took a tight 3rd game to keep himself in the match. Rich kept on motoring, seemingly without even getting out of breath, (much to the disgust of Eric) and managed to overturn his early deficit to reclaim his much-loved CLUB CHAMPION title!

UNSUNG HERO AWARD: A new award was announced during the Finals Presentation, for the Unsung Hero of Eldon Leisure Squash for the year. We proudly presented the inaugural award to Adam Coates for all his hard work and dedication and for running the club's internal leagues!

Thank you to everyone who participated and made the event exciting and enjoyable. Also, thanks again to the fantastic organisation of Martin Bone and Clare Woroniuk who made it all happen!
