DAY 2

Today was semis and finals day and the first ever Eldon Doubles Open Champions were crowned!

SEMI-FINALS (MAIN DRAW)

Game 1: The Mattimore Express 3 - 1 The ESC

This was an excellent, fast-paced encounter in which both teams showed their class. The ESC will have felt hard done by to only get 1 game, but Liam and Michael (Mattimore Express) were just too accurate in the end, and advanced to the final.

Game 2: Team Evans 3 - 2 Brace Yourself

Again, both teams showed flashes of brilliance throughout this match. Team Evans won the first but the talented youngster tag team of Max and Joe (Brace Yourself) went 2-1 up with some expertly played patient squash. However, Brace Yourself couldn’t quite back up their excellent win over the Chuckle Brothers in the previous round and lost the 2 remaining games. Team Evans through to the final!

SEMI-FINALS (PLATE)

Game 1: Dream Crushers 3 - 0 Kangaroo Coates

A very competitive all-Eldon affair in which the first 2 games could have gone either way, with the Dream Crushers taking them 11/8 and 11/9 respectively. The 3rd and final game was slightly more comfortable for the Dream Crushers, winning it 11/6 and booking their place in the plate final in the process.

Game 2: Odd Couple 3 - 1 ICAMB Smashers

The start of this encounter was full of brutal, hard-hitting squash and neither team was able to get a foothold, the score being 1-1 after the first 2 games. However, the Odd Couple slowed down and played more accurately, a tactic which served them well as they won the next 2 games relatively comfortably. Odd Couple through to the plate final to face the Dream Crushers.

MAIN FINAL

Mattimore Express 3 - 0 Team Evans (11/9, 11/6, 11/6)

This was an extremely competitive, yet light-hearted encounter between 2 very talented teams who both fully deserved to be in the final. The score line did not do justice to Team Evans as they put up a valiant effort and played some fantastic squash, however, Mattimore Express were rightfully crowned the champions as they played some outrageous winners (which were well celebrated!) and had great court coverage. Congratulations to the inaugural Eldon Doubles Open Champions: MATTIMORE EXPRESS!!

PLATE FINAL

Dream Crushers 2 - 3 Odd Couple (10/11, 11/9, 6/11, 11/8, 10/11)

As the score suggests this match went down to the wire. Both teams were determined to be crowned the plate winners which showed in the majority of the rallies, which were fast-paced and quite physical. The factor which tipped the balance towards team Odd Couple was that they had a forehand on each side and they exploited that to be crowned Eldon Doubles Open Plate Champions!
